Uterus Didelphys – Woman With Two Vaginas Tells Her Story

A 27-year-old woman whose rare medical condition means she has two vaginas has revealed that she so relaxed with her body that she visits fetish clubs with her husband, according to reports.

Hazel Jones had to lose her virginity twice and also has to have two smear tests due to her “one in a million” uterus didelphys condition – but does not permit it ‘to make her shy’.

“My quirky condition does not make me shy or hold me back.

“In fact, it’s something I celebrate,” she reportedly told The Sun.

The condition means a woman has two separate uteruses, two vaginas and two cervixes. It happens when a septum which usually breaks down between two tubes that form the uterus does not break down, leaving two uteruses.

“If you are not aware that you have got this it can be really uncomfortable, I thought I was having cystitis, I thought I was having urine infections from a young age, when I wasn’t. I was actually tearing the middle septum,” she told ITV1’s This Morning hosts Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby yesterday.

2-Headed Baby Born in Brazil

A Brazilian woman has given birth to a two-headed baby boyand doctors say the newborn appears to be in good health. Maria de Nazare has decided to name the pair, who share a heart, lungs, liver and pelvis, Emanoel and Jesus.

“When doctors scanned her they realized that the baby had two heads and that a normal birth would be a great risk both for mother and baby,” hospital director Claudionor Assis de Vasconcelos told Brazil’s O Povo newspaper. “The caesarean took an hour because the baby was sitting down.”

“Despite all the problems we have as a small interior hospital we managed to save both mother and baby, which was our aim,” he said. “And for us it was a great surprise to find out that the child was in really good health.”

De Nazare was expecting twins and only found out about the two-headed child minutes before doctors advised her to have a caesarean birth in order to save both her life and that of her baby. Along with two heads, the 9.9 pound newborns have separate spines.

In some two-headed births where one brain is less developed, one head is removed in order to save the child’s life. But rarer cases like this one, where there are two functioning brains, complicates the decision making process for doctors.

“If both their brains are functioning, how are we going to choose which head to remove?” said Neila Dahas, director of the Santa Casa hospital. “We are not considering the possibility of surgery. What we’ve got to think about at this moment is to maintain the children in good condition and see how they will develop.”

Conjoined twins sharing a body, but with separate heads, are extremely rare but not without precedent. This is the second such birth in Brazil this year. However, the other child died after a few hours because of a lack of oxygen to one of the child’s heads.

There have been at least 14 dicephalic conjoined twins born over the past 200 years.

In the United States, 21-year-old Abigail and Brittany Hensel were the subject of a 1996 documentary from The Learning Channel and appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show.

Indian Farmer Dies After Having 13 Pounds of Metal Removed From His Stomach

A man has man died after stunned doctors removed 13 pounds of metal from his stomach.

Farmer Kamleshwar Singh was admitted to hospital in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh complaining of abdominal pains.

Following x-ray inspection, three keys, 431 coins, 196 iron pellets and 17 small bolts were found in his stomach.

Despite removing the items, doctors were unable to save his life.

Bhojram Dewangan, Director of Shreesti Institute of Medical Science and Research Centre, where Mr Singh was treated, said, ‘The patient had been consuming small iron objects for the last nine months.’

‘He visited us complaining of intolerable abdominal pain.

‘After sonography and X- ray tests, the doctors carried out the major surgery.’

Even after the tests the doctors who opened Mr Singh’s stomach were shocked by the number and variety of everyday metallic objects they found.

Dr Yadav, led the team that operated upon Mr Singh, who is suspected of having schizophrenia.

‘All the iron objects were lying at the base of his stomach,’ he said.

‘When we started the surgery, we thought we would find a few items.

‘But as we progressed, we were amazed to find such a huge number of coins and pellets had passed into his intestines.

‘Signs of chronic ulceration were apparent in the stomach.’

Mr Singh’s friends and family were apparently unaware of his habit of swallowing iron objects.

His wife, said: ‘My husband complained of frequent stomach ache and spent sleepless nights in the past four weeks.

‘But he kept us in the dark about swallowing iron objects.

‘He stopped going to the field citing weakness and was even unable to have his regular meals.’

In addition to schizophrenia experts believed Mr Singh was suffering from additional psychiatric problems which gave him an appetite for non-nutritional foreign objects.

Severed Finger Attached to Stomach

Yongjun Wang, a furniture worker in China’s Liaoning Province, was rushed to the hospital after chopping off part of his finger while using an electrical saw. The gravity of the damage done to the finger worried the physician, Dr. Xuesong Huang, so he devised a unique plan to save the digit.

“We had to make a quick decision or he could have lost his finger. We decided to cultivate a new fingertip on his stomach,” explained the doctor to the media.

What had happened was that all muscle and skin from the bottom of the finger was shaved away. In order to get the finger working again they needed to get blood circulating so the body would fix itself by building new muscle and skin. If they didn’t, the whole finger would have had to be amputated. Hence, the attaching of the remaining finger to the stomach. Allowing the blood to freely circulate again the finger is starting to heal itself and the patient should have a new fingertip in a roughly a month. Then the finger will be cut away from the stomach.

Living With Voices

The job was gone, the gun was loaded, and a voice was saying, “You’re a waste, give up now, do it now.”

It was a command, not a suggestion, and what mattered at that moment — a winter evening in 2000 — was not where the voice was coming from, but how assured it was, how persuasive.

Losing his first decent job ever seemed like too much for Joe Holt to live with. It was time.

“All I remember then is a knock on the bedroom door and my wife, Patsy, she sits down on the bed and hugs me, and I’m holding the gun in my left hand, down here, out of sight,” said Mr. Holt, 50, a computer consultant and entrepreneur who has a diagnosis of schizophrenia.

“She says, ‘Joe, I know you feel like quitting, but what if tomorrow is the day you get what you want?’ And walks out. I sat there staring at that gun for an hour at least, and finally decided — never again. It can never be an option. Patsy deserves for me to be trying.”

Henry Arnibal: Cockfighter Killed and Ate Bobcat While High on Methamphetamine

Santa Clara county authorities arrested a 38-year-old man after he was allegedly discovered to be high on meth, owning cockfighting tools, and skinning then eating a bobcat.

Henry Arnibal was arrested on Sleepy Valley Road, and stated he’d killed the bobcat with a .22 rifle, and then ate it, after it attacked his roosters.

The carcass of the bobcat was found hanging on a fence.

All the charges, except for the drug charge, are fish and game violations. All are misdemeanors.

Arnibal was discovered living in a trailer on land authorities believed to be a former marijuana farm.

Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney Steve Lowney said 50 roosters, cockfighting hooks, and the bobcat’s carcass were taken into evidence.

The Face of Testicular Pain

The screaming face that you see above you came from ultrasound images of the scrotum of a 45-year-old man , and was recently published in the journal Urology in an article entitled, “The Face of Testicular Pain: A Surprising Ultrasound Finding.”

Authors Roberts and Touma noted:

While scrolling through the ultrasound images, the residents and staff alike were amazed to see the outline of a man’s face staring up out of the image, his mouth agape as if the face seen on the ultrasound scan itself was also experiencing severe pain.

A brief debate ensued on whether the image could have been a sign from a deity (perhaps Min the Egyptian god of male virility); however, the consensus deemed it a mere coincidental occurrence rather than a divine proclamation.

The testicle was removed and the screaming face tumor turned out to be benign.

Scientists Crack the Genetic Code of the 14th Century Bubonic Plague that Killed 50 Million Europeans

Scientists have mapped out the entire genetic map of the Black Death, a 14th century bubonic plague that killed 50 million Europeans in one of the most devastating epidemics in history.

The work, which involved extracting and purifying DNA from the remains of Black death victims buried in London’s “plague pits,” is the first time scientists have been able to draft a reconstructed genome of any ancient pathogen.

Their result — a full draft of the entire Black Death genome — should allow researchers to track changes in the disease’s evolution and virulence, and lead to better understanding of modern-day infectious diseases.

Building on previous research which showed that a specific variant of the Yersinia pestis (Y. pestis) bacterium was responsible for the plague that ravaged Europe between 1347 and 1351, a team of German, Canadian and American scientists went on to “capture” and sequence the entire genome of the disease.

“The genomic data show that this bacterial strain, or variant, is the ancestor of all modern plagues we have today worldwide. Every outbreak across the globe today stems from a descendant of the medieval plague,” said Hendrik Poinar, of Canada’s McMaster University, who worked with the team.

“Experts say the direct descendants of the same bubonic plague still exist today, killing around 2,000 people a year.

A virulent strain of E. coli bacteria which caused a deadly outbreak of infections in Germany and France earlier this year was also found to contain DNA sequences from plague bacteria.

For this study Poinar’s team analysed skeletal remains from Black Death victims buried in London’s East Smithfield “plague pits,” which are located under what is now the Royal Mint.

By focusing on promising specimens from the dental pulp of five bodies, which had already been pre-screened for the presence of Y. pestis, they were able to extract, purify and enrich the disease’s DNA and at the same time reduce the amount of background non-plague DNA which might interfere.

Linking the 1349 to 1350 dates of the skeletal remains to the genetic data allowed the researchers to calculate the age of the ancestor of Y. pestis that caused the mediaeval plague.

Poinar, whose work was published in the journal Nature, said the team found that in 660 years of evolution, the genetic map of the ancient organism had only barely changed. “The next step is to determine why this was so deadly,” he said.

Johannes Krause Of Germany’s University of Tubingen, who also worked on the study, said the same approach could now be used to study the genomes of all sorts of historic pathogens.

“This will provide us with direct insights into the evolution of human pathogens and historical pandemics,” he said in a statement.

Depressed People Process Hate Differently in Their Brains

Scientists in China and the UK scanned the brains of people with and without depression, and they found a surprising pattern in nearly all of the depressed people: Their brain activity was out of sync in three regions collectively known as the “hate circuit” — so called because in previous experiments they have been shown to light up when people look at photographs of someone they can’t stand.

It’s as if the brains of depressed people hate incorrectly. The brain disruptions the researchers observed could be a sign that people with depression have an impaired ability to cope with — and learn from — social situations in which they feel hate, Feng says. This may explain why they often turn emotions such as hatred and anger inward, instead of handling them in more constructive ways, he adds.

The study, which was published Tuesday in the journal Molecular Psychiatry, is the first to connect disruptions in the hate circuit to depression, and the findings may help doctors understand why depressed people react the way they do to certain circumstances, says Madhkar Trivedi, M.D., director of the mood disorders program and clinic at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas.

Snorting Insulin May Treat Alzheimer’s Disease

A study in the journal Archives of Neurology suggests that intranasal insulin may help with cognition and functioning in patients who have both mild and more severe dementia.

Recent research has suggested that insulin plays an important role in a number of brain functions, in addition to regulating blood sugar. Insulin promotes cell repair and cell genesis, so the thinking is that it could actually modify the course of Alzheimer’s disease.

It also appears to protect against the toxic effects of beta-amyloid, the protein involved in the brain plaques associated with dementia. Insulin also prevents the formation of the toxic form of tau, a biomarker found in the cerebrospinal fluid.

The goal of this study was to supplement and normalize the insulin levels in the brain without affecting levels in the rest of the body. This was done with a device that was designed to deliver insulin through the nose to the brain without getting too much into the blood.

Patients treated with insulin were able to remember information over a period of time better than those who got placebo; in fact, performance improved 20%. They also showed an enhancement in brain glucose metabolism in some areas; those who received placebo tended to show a decline.

The treatment had the mild side effects of occasional mild headache and runny nose.
