On May 11, Cindy Sherman’s “Untitled #96” from 1981, shown here, passed all records for photography when it sold for $3.89 million to New York art dealer Philippe Segalot.
The previous record for a photograph at an auction was $3.35 million in 2006 for Andreas Gursky’s “99 Cent II Diptychon,” shown below.
